Layritz Park lies in the District of Saanich one of thirteen areas that form the Capital Regional District of British Columbia. The property for the parkland, about 6.5 hectares, was formed by the donation from Mr. Richard Layritz, in 1953. His greenhouse and horticultural business, Layritz Nurseries Ltd., provided a lot of the initial shrubs and trees for the Victoria area including Butchart Gardens and Beacon Hill Parkland. Layritz Park is almost 30 hectares with sports field, meadowlands and forested areas. There are seven baseball fields with outfield fences making this a ball park for baseball players of all ages. There is also a turf soccer field. The main Little League ballpark has announcer lookouts, bleachers, and a seasonal concession. There is a toddler friendly playground near the concession building. Swings, climbing wall and apparatus form the play area. A disc golf course lies on the north side of park. Garry oak, Douglas fir and big leaf maple trees can be found the parkland areas. Layritz Park is a park all seasons to enjoy the outdoors. It backs onto Camosun College Interurban Campus and Vancouver Island Technology Park lands. There are many foot and cycling trails as well as equestrian pathways in Layritz Park. The paved local connector bicycling trail, about one kilometer, passes through the park. It connects to the Glendale area pathways and leads to Wilkenson Road. Another trail, about 400 meters long, is composed of loose gravel trail starts near the Tech Buildings and leads to the Pacific Institute for Sports Education building. There is short woodchip trail near the toilet building on the north end of the parking lot. The trail leads along the ballpark outfield and into the forested area at the far end. Continue along the Layritz trail heading southwest toward to the PISE and Camosun College Interurban Campus. The trail branches before reach the PISE building. Taking this trail for a short stroll up the three-hundred-meter gentle slope Layritz Hill for views, from its 80 meter summit, to the west, south and east. This is a beautiful spot. Continue back along the trails or extend your walk toward the green spaces on Camosun College eventually Tech Park for about a 1500 meter loop stroll. This is a good place to walk in your backyard.

You can get to Layritz Park from the Trans-Canada highway. Exit at the Helmcken Road exit and continue along as the road becomes Wilkenson Road after crossing Interurban Road. Continue through the lights onto Wilkinson Road. Follow Wilkinson to Glyn Road. Turn left onto Glyn Road and continue through the neighborhood to turn right onto Layritz Ave. The park is at the end of Layritz Ave where there is a paved parking area. Alternatively, continue along Wilkenson to reach West Saanich Road turn left and follow along to Markham Road. Turn left onto Markham Road to reach the Technology Park Buildings. Another parking area is found here. There is a nominal fee to park in this lot.
