Lochside Park

Lochside Park lies in the District of Saanich one of thirteen areas that form the Capital Regional District of British Columbia.  This is a park with something for kids of all ages. Opened in 1985, it borders on the Lochside Extension of the Galloping Goose Trail, a cycling, walking and equestrian pathway. This park is next to the Cordova Bay eighteen hole golf course; the Cordova Bay Golf Course was built by Bill and Wilhelmina Mattick in 1962. Cottonwood trees provide a visual barrier between the sport areas. Blackberry, ocean spray and  snowberries bushes can be found in this park.

The main sports fields are baseball fields and soccer fields. Lochside Park has a couple of chain link fenced ball diamonds and a batting cage on its four and half hectares.  There are fenced tennis courts and a turf soccer/rugby field. The chain link fence of the turf sports field, Frank’s Field, borders along the golf course. Soccer enthusiast Mr. Frank Leversedge supported youth soccer in Cordova Bay over many years and is commemorated as the name of this field. A toddler friendly playground with climbing apparatus and swings is great for children.  There are toilets in the lower level of Saanich Fusion Football Club and Cordova Bay Softball Club sport field house with change rooms. This have also have a few picnic tables and benches. The parking area is be busy during ball games and also used by cyclists wanting to start a trip along the Lochside Trail.

Lochside Park can be accessed from the Trans-Canada highway. Exit on to Mackenzie Avenue to reach Highway 17, Pat Bay Highway. Follow Pat Bay Highway northward to reach Cordova Bay Road. Turn right onto Cordova Bay Road. Follow Cordova Bay Road over the hill to Fowler Road. Turn right onto Fowler Bay Road then left onto Lochside Drive to reach the parking lot. There is a parking area with additional parking found at Fowler Park or at Matticks Farm shopping area.
