South Park is in the seaside city of Victoria, one of thirteen communities that form the Capital Regional District of British Columbia. South Park is part of the South Park Elementary School grounds. These two green spaces are divided by Michigan/South Park Street in the City of Victoria, B.C. The southern area forms the play area for South Park Elementary School in the James Bay community which is called South Park or Michigan Street Park. This 1.3 hectare area has a large Sierra redwood tree, several large Garry oak trees as well as many small bushes like snowberry and blackberries. The school playground is well shaded by the trees and has two play sets. One has a barrel slide from a series of multilevel wooden platforms. The other is slightly more elaborate with platforms reached by ladders, stairs and climbing tunnels. There are two slides on this playset. Slight south of the playground is a pair of asphalt basketball courts a rocky knoll. On the north side of the Michigan Street is the two story Queen Anne style brick school building that was built in eighteen ninety three for the Victoria School District #61. It has continuously functioned as a school. The area surrounding the building has asphalt marked for games likes four squares, hopscotch and circle ball. This is a enjoyable walk in your back yard of James Bay.
