Ecole Poirier Elementary School Green Space is in the seaside community of Sooke, one of thirteen communities that form the Capital Regional District of British Columbia. This green space is part of the 14 hectare school yards of School District #62 – Sooke. The school grounds are available outside of school hours. There is an elaborate play ground at this green space with climbing apparatus, swings and steps. A grass covered sports field lies behind the school building. It has goal posts for soccer or football games. The name of the school commemorates Mr. Joseph Poirier, whom arrived in this area in eighteen ninety eight. Mr. Poirier married Ms. Ellen Brule and raised fourteen children many of whom still reside in the area. The school provides a good overview the family history. The green space is bordered by a chain link fence and lies along the DeMameil Creek Park. There are tall cedar hemlock and fir trees near the school yard. This is a good place to walk in your back yard and a walk can easily be combined with a walk through the green space of Journey Middle School.
