Viaduct Park

Viaduct Park is in the seaside city of Victoria, one of thirteen communities that form the Capital Regional District of British Columbia. This linear park extends from under the Gorge Road East Bridge to the Selkirk Trestle Bridge and is called Viaduct Park. Its three quarters of a hectare area is divided by the Galloping Goose Regional Trail. A line of cedar trees borders the shoreline of Cecelia Creek. Home to many local and migratory birds, such as ducks and geese, the estuary habitat of Cecelia Creek and Cove is enhanced by the freshwater from Cecelia Creek as it flows into the Gorge Waterway. You may be fortunate to spot a great blue heron (Ardea herodias) fishing in the mudflats or perhaps a river otter or two. The seventy meter paved pathway with benches leads from Cecelia Cove Park to Cecelia Ravine Park. A series of stairs leads into the park from Gorge Road East just east of its bridge. Views of the Selkirk Trestle and waterways are great from along this access. Cecelia Cove Park, Sawmill Point and Garbally Landing green spaces are along the walkway to the south. Across the Selkirk trestle is the Trans Canada Parkette, Banfield Park and the continuation of the Galloping Goose Regional Trail. This is an wonderful place to explore in your backyard.

Viaduct Park can be reached from the Trans Canada Highway. Continue along the highway as it becomes Douglas Street. Turn west onto Finlayson Street and continue past Burnside Road West to reach Gorge Road East. Continue onto Jutlands Road and turn right off the traffic circle onto Waterfront Crescent. The Cecelia Cove Park is along the curve in the road and Viaduct Park can be accessed by walking through it. Alternatively get on the Galloping Goose Regional Trail and once you cross over the trestle bridge or pass under the tunnel for Gorge Road East you are in this park. A city bus travels along Gorge Road East from downtown.
